Before your little red dog comes home

A practical checklist for the week before your Toller arrives.

Start with a plan, not a shopping spree

The most useful preparation is deciding who does what. Write down who will collect your puppy, who will be home on the first days, and who will handle appointments. Put the plan somewhere the whole household can find it.

Ask your breeder which food, familiar objects, and routines your puppy already knows. Record the answers instead of relying on memory after an exciting handover. Any changes to feeding or health care are a conversation for your breeder and veterinarian.

Make one small, useful checklist

Group your list into three parts: things to arrange, things to ask, and things to bring. Arrange transport and your first veterinary appointment. Ask which documents will come home with the puppy. Bring the supplies your breeder recommends for the journey.

Give every detail a home

Create one folder for documents and one short page for everyday information. Keep the original paperwork as well as digital copies. Use clear filenames so another person can find the right record without asking you.

Your first-week plan is a working note, not a test. Leave room for changes. At the end of the first few days, update what you learned about your individual dog and bring questions to the appropriate professional.

Keep the first page simple

The best checklist is the one you will actually use. Print a single page, put a pen beside it, and cross things off together. You can build a more detailed system later.
